I am now taking donations for Tainted Blog Tour giveaway. If you would like to donate, please click on the link below. Thank you in advance.

Trust

Guys....

Mini rant about to take place....

So, I was talking with a fellow author who is getting ready to start a blog tour.

Apparently, she found out that several "blogs" that signed up for her tour weren't blogs at all. Or they were someone not affiliated with the blog they had listed.

Tainted's blog tour is coming up at the end of next month, so I thought I should check too. Low and behold, I had the same issue.

I know it makes me an idiot, but I trust people. I've been around for 23 years. You'd think that I would know better, but whatever. I'm too trusting and it gets me in trouble from time to time. Like with this situation. I never even thought to check on the people who signed up for my tour.

So, I just spent the last.... hour of my life messaging blogs that had emails that didn't match their names. Most of them were legit, but I found a few that either
A. weren't related to that blog
B. The blog they listed didn't exist

I'm kind of ticked off. Bloggers work their bums off for authors and they shouldn't be used this way. And people shouldn't try to take advantage of authors to get books.

I get that money is tight. I do. Especially around this time of year. But please, please, PLEASE don't lie. It makes legit bloggers look bad and it makes authors not trust anyone.

Now, excuse me while I go sulk and eat brownies.

It took A LOT of people to make this cover. I won't lie - It's my favorite of all time.
First, I want to thank Letitia with Romantic Book Affairs for making the cover.
Second, to Hilda from LaModaPhotography for taking this awesome photo for me.
And finally, to Kevin, the super hot guy who agreed to be my cover model. Let me just say - he's one of the nicest guys I've ever met! If you want to check out his portfolio, you can see it here:

The Torn Series - What's next?

As most of you know, Tainted (Torn #3) is scheduled for release January 25th, 2014. It is the third and final book for Chloe and Drake. It is split into two parts (okay - three parts, but the third part is a surprise.) Part one focuses on the six months that Chloe and Drake were apart in Twisted. It is from Drake's point of view. Part two focuses on what happens next from Chloe's point of view.

Once you finish Tainted, you'll see that Chloe and Drake's story is complete.

So, does that mean that the Torn Series is finished? No. I posted a looooooong time ago that I planned to write books for the rest of the characters and I still plan to do that.  Logan, Jordan, Eric, Adam, Danny, Jade, and Amber will all have a chance to tell their stories as well. And yes, Chloe and Drake will be in their books. They're a group so it would be impossible not to have them in there. You'll get to see bits and pieces of their future in the other books.

I'll be honest with you guys. I've finished writing six full length novels and a novella since January. Total I've type roughly 398,000 words in 12 months. I have a husband, a three year old and I also have a day job. To put it mildly - I'm exhausted. I sleep no more than 4 hours a day and that's over exaggerating at times. I'm 23, but I'm beat.

I'm taking a month or two off. I have to or I'm going to crash. I have crashed once already. Right now, I can promise you that three books will be released in 2014. Tainted, Twisted Ties, and the standalone I just finished. My goal is to put six out, but I'm seeing how things go.

The thing is, with writing, sometimes you have to put one story on hold because another is claiming your attention. That's what happened with Shattered Ties and the standalone. I planned to write Logan's story right after I finished Tainted. Didn't happen. I have started on his story though, so hopefully it will be out later next year.

So to sum up my ramblings - YES, there will be more of the Torn Series. I'm hoping to have all of them out by the end of 2015. I can't promise though, because I literally have a word document FULL of stories that are nagging at me.

Hugs,
K

The "hidden" message in Shattered Ties.

When I first announced Shattered Ties, I said that I hoped everyone found the "hidden" meaning in it. I use the term hidden loosely because it's pretty obvious for the most part.

I think everyone knows what I was talking about if you've read the book. When I wrote Shattered Ties, I wanted to not only write a love story, but send a message to my readers as well.

In the world we live in today, it is SO easy to feel like you're not good enough. There is always someone out there who is "better" than you. Or at least, it feels like it.

That's just not true. I'm sorry, but it's not. I'm sure there are several people out there giving me a weird look as they read this, but I stand firm on my belief that we are all equal. It doesn't matter how much money you have, where you live, how big your home is, what kind of car you drive, what your family is like, what language you speak, what color your skin is, or what kind of education/job you have.

We are all equal. No one should EVER feel ashamed of who they are or what they have. People tend to look at your material belongings and judge you. I hate that. I. HATE. THAT.

I've grown up my entire life knowing the rumors about West Virginia. I've heard it all - we have no teeth, we don't wear shoes, we live in the mountains, we all carry around banjos while wearing overalls and chewing on a piece of hay. (I tried hay when I was little. Let me just say - I have no idea what cows like about it. Ewwww.)

It used to make me angry, but now I laugh. It's comical when people meet me for the first time and I tell them I'm from WV. (And by the way, West Virginia is a state. It's not part of Virginia.)

We are all created the same. If you take get anything out of Shattered Ties, I hope it's this - Regardless of your circumstances, you should be proud of who you are.

I love every single one of you reading this. So, hold your head up high and tell the world to take their assumptions and shove them right up their... you know.

YOU are worth so much. Never let anyone tell you different.

Release Dates!

ANNOUNCEMENT TIME!

You have all been very patient with me regarding Torn #3's release date.
So... Today I'm going to announce not only Torn #3, but Shattered Ties #2 as well.
Torn #3's title is TAINTED. The release date is January 25th, 2014, exactly one year to the day from when I originally released Torn.
Tainted is a little bit shorter than Torn and Twisted, but not small enough to be a novella. It is broken down into two parts. Part one focuses on the six months in Twisted when Drake and Chloe were apart. (Drake's POV)
Part Two focuses on what happened next. ;)
Part Three is a surprise. :P
Tainted cover reveal is December 14th. I can't wait for you all to see it. :)
_______________________________________________
Now, for Shattered Ties #2. I know those of you who have finished Shattered Ties are patiently waiting for the rest of Jesse and Emma's story.  You don't have to wait long, I promise.
The title of ST#2 is Twisted Ties.
The release date is March 1st, 2014.
It starts off right where the epilogue left you in Shattered Ties. I think once you read this one, you will understand why I stopped where I did with Shattered Ties.

So, to sum it up-

Tainted - Releases January 25th, 2014.
Twisted Ties - March 1st, 2014.

<3 you all!

It's almost time!

Okay, we're down to two days until Shattered Ties is released! I can't wait!

I decided to self publish this book like I did originally with Torn and Twisted. Why am I telling you this? Because self publishing with a release date can be a bit tricky.

I will publish using Kobo, iBooks, Nook, Smashwords, AND Amazon. Each platform takes a different amount of time to go live. I know A LOT of authors have had issues with a few of these taking a crazy amount of time to go live.

I WILL HIT PUBLISH TOMORROW AFTERNOON.

Shattered Ties might go live in an hour. It might take two days. I don't know. And that sucks. But there is nothing I can do.

As soon as I have the links, I will post them. I promise. I've been waiting MONTHS to give you guys this book.

Now.... one other thing. I JUST found out that Trapt is playing less than 30 minutes from where I live tomorrow night. You guys know that I'm a freak when it comes to music. So, naturally, I'm going. (VIP tickets for $20??? I'd be an idiot not to!) If the book is not live by the time I leave, I'll have Amber watching for me. I know some of you read at warp speed, so if you message me and I don't respond, I'm either in a mosh pit or sleeping. LOL I'll reply as soon as I get a chance.

I love you all and I can't wait to hear what you think of Shattered Ties!

Shattered Ties Prologue

We are only THREE days away from the release of Shattered Ties. I can't believe it. It seems like just yesterday that I was hitting publish on first Torn, and then Twisted. I have trouble wrapping my mind around the fact that it's been almost a year (1-25-13) since I released my first book. My life has changed drastically since then.

I'm a small town girl that is living her dream. I couldn't have done it without you guys. You rock my world on a daily basis. I just want you all to know how much you mean to me. I love talking with you online and meeting everyone at signings.

Just a note - Shattered Ties is not part of The Torn Series. It is book one of two of a brand new series. I know you all love Drake, but I really think you'll like Jesse too.

And while this is a romance novel, I hope that you pick up on the underlying message I was trying to get out. It's obvious once you start reading.

Love you all! <3

Prologue

Every child puts his or her parents up on a pedestal. Parents could do no
wrong, and their opinions were your opinions as well.

At the tender age of six, I felt the same way. My mother, the famous
supermodel, Andria Bellokavich, was my idol. I wanted to wear her clothes,
make my hair look the same as hers, and share her opinions with the world.

“I can’t believe they let that kind of riffraff in this park,” my mother said as
she wrinkled her nose in distaste.

I followed her gaze to see a boy around my age and his mother playing by
the sandbox. “What’s wrong with them, Mommy?”

“They’re low-class white trash, and I don’t see why they feel the need to
invade our park.”

I stared at the boy. I saw nothing low-class about him, but what did I
know? My mommy knew everything, and if she said they were icky, then they
must be.
“Can we make them go away?” I asked, eager to please my mommy.
“I wish, but unfortunately, this is a public park, so there’s nothing I can
do. I will say this—we will not be coming back here anytime soon.”

I loved this park, and it made me sad that we couldn’t come back. I
instantly hated the boy and his mother for taking away my favorite place in
the world.

“Can I go play on the slides?” I asked, not wanting to waste a minute of
my time here since it would be my last.

“Of course, honey, but don’t go anywhere near them.” She sniffed as she
pulled out her BlackBerry and started punching buttons.
I hated that thing. Mommy was always on it, and she never paid attention
to me when she was. Daddy had one, too, but he always put it down if I
wanted his attention. I didn’t mind Daddy’s so much.

“Thank you, Mommy!” I said as I leaped off the bench we were sitting on
and ran for the slides.

I looked back once to see if Mommy was watching, so I could show her
just how fast I could climb up the slide, but of course, she wasn’t looking. She
still had that stupid thing glued to her hand.

I sighed in defeat and slowly climbed the ladder. I was so proud of myself
when I made it to the top. Not every six-year-old could climb this high
without being afraid, but I could. I’d been doing it forever or at least since I
was five and Mommy had started to let me run around the park on my own.
She always told me that I was a big girl now and that I could take care of
myself while she worked.

I sat down and pushed myself down the slide, giggling when I got to the
bottom as I felt the static in my pigtails. I loved the slide. It was my favorite
part of the park—after the sandbox, of course. I glanced over at the sandbox
to see that the boy and his mommy had moved on to the swings.

Now’s my chance! I jumped off the slide and ran as fast as I could to the
sandbox. Once I made it there, I sat on the edge, so I wouldn’t make Mommy
mad by getting sand all over my dress. I picked up the bucket and started
filling it with sand to make my very own fairy princess castle. One day, when I
was all grown-up like Mommy, I would find a prince who would build me my
very own castle.

“Whatcha making?” an unfamiliar voice asked.
I looked up to see the boy from earlier standing above me. I wasn’t
supposed to talk to him, but how could I not when he’d asked me a question?

“Making my princess castle,” I replied, hoping he would lose interest
after the princess part and leave me alone. If Mommy saw us talking, she
would be so mad at me.

“Can I help?” he asked as he sat down right in the middle of the sandbox.
I looked around, expecting his mommy to yell at him for getting his
clothes dirty, but she was just watching us and smiling as she sat on one of
the slides.

“I can do it on my own,” I replied shortly, hoping that he would take the
hint and leave me alone.

“Don’t you want to play with me?” he asked, sounding hurt.
“I’m not supposed to play with you. My mommy said so.”
     “Why not?”
“Because you don’t belong here, and you’re trash.”
His eyes widened at my words, and he frowned. “I am not trash!”
“Well, my mommy says you are, and she’s always right. She says you
shouldn’t even be allowed to play here.”

“Well, your mommy is wrong. My mommy says that we are welcome
here, just like everyone else.”

I shrugged. “I don’t care what your mommy says. My mommy is right,
and you shouldn’t be here. Go away.”

Before he could respond, I heard my mommy calling my name.
      “Emma Bellokavich Preston! Come here!”
I glared at the boy as I stood. “Now see what you’ve done? I’m in trouble
all because of you!” I turned and ran back to my mommy. I felt a twinge of
fear as I saw the angry sneer on her face.

“What did I tell you? I do not want you around people like that!”
I hung my head, ashamed that I’d disobeyed her. “I’m sorry, Mommy. I
told him to go away, but he wouldn’t listen.”

“I don’t want to hear it! If you can’t listen to me, then you don’t need to
be here. Come on, we’re going home.”

I sighed as I followed her out to the parking lot where her brand-new
Mercedes was parked.

All I wanted was a princess castle.

Shattered Ties Cover Reveal!

It's finally time to release the cover for Shattered Ties. I'm so excited to share it with you. I can't stop gushing over Letitia at Romantic Book Affairs. She took this cover to a whole new level for me. I love her to pieces.

If you'd like to add Shattered Ties to your "To Read" Bookshelf on Goodreads, here is the link: Shattered Ties on Goodreads.

Shattered Ties is the first book in a two book series! :)

Description:

With a former supermodel mother and a rock-and-roll legend father, Emma Preston has the best of everything. Nothing is as perfect as it seems though. After her parents divorce, she’s forced to live with her mother in a private Santa Monica community. Ignoring their parental roles, her mother becomes more focused on climbing the social ladder while her father is off on tour.

Growing up in a trailer park with his mother, Jesse is used to people looking down on him. When his mother begs him to submit an application for a scholarship to one of Santa Monica’s top private schools, he never expects to actually get it. When he does, he is forced to attend school with a bunch of rich kids. He ignores their stares as they judge him for having tattoos and a less than impressive car. As long as he has his surfboard and the guys at the tattoo shop, he knows he can make it through.

When Jesse shows up on the first day of school, Emma can’t help but be intrigued. Her mother would never approve of Emma talking to someone so poor, but she doesn’t care because something about Jesse draws her to him.

Jesse tries to hate Emma, but he discovers that he can’t resist her. Forced to hide their relationship from Emma’s mother and everyone else around them, things start to fall apart. When Jesse’s friend, Ally, decides to interfere, things go from bad to worse.

Can they survive their first love? Or will they be left with nothing more than shattered ties?

Book 1 of a 2 book series.

**18+ for sexual situations, cursing, and adult content.***

Okay, I'll shut up now and post the cover.

Love you all!!! xoxo

I have had several of you ask about signed copies of Torn (with the new cover.)

I’m excited to tell you that I can NOW take orders for them. I will be taking orders through OCTOBER 15TH. After I get a total on how many I need to order, I will place my order. I should be able to have them sent out by early November, hopefully before Shattered Ties is released!
If you would like a copy, please follow the directions below.

Pricing:

If you are in the US, the price is $20.00 with shipping per book.
If you are in Canada, the price is $30 with shipping per book.
If you are in another country besides the US or Canada, the price is $40 with shipping per book.

Signed Items.

I've had several of you contact me regarding signed items.

Right now, there is no way to get signed books unless you attend a signing.
Once Shattered Ties releases, I will do signed copies like I do with every release. (My assistant Amber is probably beating her head off the table as she reads this. She gets to stuff the books in the mailers.)

I CAN send out signed items. I have cards for Torn and Twisted and BRAND SPANKING NEW Shattered Ties bookmarks.

If you are a RESIDENT OF THE US and would like a signed bookmark/card, please send me a SELF ADDRESSED envelope WITH A STAMP. You can send it to:

K.A. Robinson
P.O. Box 64
Lumberport, WV 26386

If you are outside of the US, email me at KARobinsonfans@aol.com and we can see if I can get something to you.

Please remember, I am scatterbrained. I usually only check my P.O. Box once or twice a month. So it will take me a few weeks to get them mailed back to you.

Remember - STAMP.  :)

***Just a note - this has more of a YA feel to it, but it still has my usual spin to it. There are... adult situations in there. Consider it a mix between NA and YA.***

Self Publishing - Part Two Royalties

I thought I would cover royalties tonight since so many were shocked when I explained how a self published author gets paid tonight on my Facebook post.

Again, I am keeping this SIMPLE.

S.I.M.P.L.E.

I'm only going to cover eBooks, because paperbacks are a beast all their own.

You've finished your book, paid for the cover, editing, and copyright. Now what?

It's time to publish.

You need to enter in the basic information - Title, Author, Description, and upload the cover and actual book file.

Next, you move on to pricing. What should you price your book at? $.99? $3.99?

There is no right or wrong answer for this. It's YOUR choice and yours alone.

One thing to remember is ROYALTIES. This is how a self published author makes their money. That pretty little $3.99 price tag? The author doesn't get that.

Royalties through Amazon are divided at the $2.99 mark. Anything below this price will ONLY EARN 35%. Yeah, you read that right. 35%

So if you price your book at $.99, you will only make around $.35 a book.

Now, if you price your book OVER $2.99 you will make 70% in MOST countries. There are a few that are just straight 35%.

So at $3.99 the author makes roughly $2.79 per book at the 70% royalty rate.

But you must remember that you have to pay taxes on what you make so they end up with even less. See Part One on that.

Again, I am just giving you the basics on this. There are things like KDP select that I'm not going to cover. Also, different platforms give different percentages. I'm simply using Amazon because they are the most popular.

I am in no way bashing the platforms - they need to get paid too. They help us reach all of you and they work hard to do it. I wouldn't be where I am today without them. Am I a huge author? No. But I have managed to build a fan base through them that I am forever grateful for.

I hope this helped any new authors with questions. I promised to do a few of these for you.

And for any readers that are looking at this right now, I hope you understand why most authors charge at least $2.99. We spend months and HUNDREDS (editing, cover design) of dollars to get these books ready to go.

We're not being greedy, we just want to get paid a fair amount. :)

So you want to write? Behind the scenes Part 1 - Taxes

I promised I would do this, and I'm FINALLY doing it. Again, I'm pressed for time, so I'm going to give the short version of self publishing (behind the scenes.)

Taxes are a hot topic lately, so I'm going to start there.

First off, let me just put this out there:

I am NOT an accountant. This is just a quick overview of what to expect. Contact a CPA to keep things legal.

Let's skip over the actual writing. You've wrote your book, you have it edited, and your cover is ready to go.

Now what?

You hit the publish button.

And then you pee yourself a little while taking straight shots of Vodka.

What comes next is entirely up to fate. Your book might hit the Top 100 on Amazon or it might hang out in the high thousands. You can push it until you're blue in the face, but you can NEVER know what will happen for sure.

Let's say you do well. You sell.... 5,000 copies your first month. At $3.99 a book, you earn just under $20,000. Holy shit! That's awesome!

But wait.

You forgot that Amazon and Nook take a %. To keep it simple, I'm going to stick with making 70%. Each distributor AND country are different. Just FYI - You can earn anywhere between 35% - 70%.

So let's take that 30% off of $20,000.

Okay, we're still good. That leaves you with $14,000! Let's go on a vacation.

But wait.

You need to put money back for taxes. Darn. Let's deduct again.

The SAFEST way to save for taxes is to put back 40%. Yes, I said 40%. You have to pay state AND federal.

With 40% off of $14,000, that leaves you with $8,400.

Wow. That $20,000 just disappeared in the blink of an eye. You just paid out $11,600. OVER 50% of what the book made.

Yes, $8,400 is an AMAZING amount to make in a month. Especially if you're someone like me who is used to earning $9.50 an hour.

So, you've set that money back to pay your taxes with. What do you do with it? When do you pay?

You MUST pay quarterly taxes if you are in most tax brackets. Must. Or you'll be fined. It's not cool to get fined. Nope. No way. (Again, contact your CPA to know for sure.) You can NOT do this on your own, so you need to find someone who can. You need an accountant, preferably a CPA. And yes, you have to pay them. It stinks. I know.

Now you've found an awesome CPA to help you. S(he) will figure out exactly what you need to pay. Once they do, you send the checks in to your state tax department and the IRS.

PLEASE remember to do this quarterly. No one wants to get fined.

You do not need to pay taxes until you start turning a profit. We all know how Amazon holds the payment for 60 days, so you need to keep that in mind. You don't have to pay on that until it is received.

Also, you need to keep receipts for ALL expenses! (Covers, editing, signings (table fee, hotel, plane tickets, gas) giveaways you run, and anything else.)

If you are successful enough, you might want to consider setting yourself up as a small business. You need to talk to your accountant. There are A LOT of things I didn't cover here, but this is something to think about to get you started.

I hope this helped! <3

Shattered Ties (Secret Project)

As most of you know, I released the title of my next book last night.

Shattered Ties.

Besides a few teasers that I've posted, I can't release much just yet. BUT I promise I will have the description up soon.

Shattered Ties will be a New Adult book. It focuses on Jesse and Emma, two teenagers who are seventeen to eighteen years old.

My plans are to keep their story down to TWO books. I've debated on whether or not to try to condense everything down to one book or not, but there is just too much happening and too long of a time frame to put it all in.

If everything goes as planned, the release date will be sometime in early November.

So, that is what I CAN tell you right now. More information will be posted soon.

WV Signing

My fellow Mountaineers (And those of you in surrounding states) -

I wanted to do something different. I know a lot of the time when you're at a signing, you don't get to chat with the authors very long before you're forced to the next table.

Well, what if you were sitting AT the table with said author? That's exactly what we're going to do. Instead of the usual stand in line to get five minutes to chat, we're going to have an entire two hours to just sit down, eat, talk, and sign stuff.

No need to dress up or even do your make up if you don't want to. It's going to be casual and relaxed and SO much fun. I LOVE spending time with you guys and I seriously can not wait to meet all of you!

Sound like a plan?

If you're interested in meeting me August 10th in Morgantown, WV please check out the links below.

Bloggers - I need YOU!

 Bloggers -

I am in the process of making a list of blogs to contact if I need promotional help (sharing giveaways, teasers, and things like that.)

If you are interested, please EMAIL me at karobinsonblogtour@aol.com (this is NOT about blog tours, I'm just using that email) so that I can add you to the list.

I don't care if you have 2 "likes" or 2,000, if you have a blog, I want you! (Preferably a Facebook page too.)

Tough Topics...

First off, let me copy and paste my Facebook status so that you understand where this post is coming from:

Such a sad night. One of my friends lost one of her friends to drug overdose tonight. My thoughts are with them.

I know I write "romance" novels, but I try to push topics that need addressed - drugs being one of them.

I've had several of you contact me since I released Twisted, telling me about your recovery or the recovery of a loved one. Those mean so much to me.

To anyone out there readin
g this who uses drugs, I beg of you to get help. You're not only hurting yourself, but your friends and family as well. If you're scared, MESSAGE ME. I know I'm a bit slow about replying at times, but I WILL message you back. I can give you links to sites that can help you, or I'll just listen if you need to talk.

You are worth so much more. Love you all.

Okay, with that being said, I want to post a few links for those of you who might be seeking help.

If you do not like those for whatever reason, let me know and I can get you more links. Just ask, I promise I will.

Drugs are such a HUGE problem in our world today, and it really irritates me when I see them swept under the rug. No, it doesn't irritate me, it flat out pisses me off.

Drugs destroy people. They destroy their lives, their jobs, their marriages, their relationship with their kids. I. hate. them. I really do.

There are SO many ways that people can get help, but they feel like they have it under control. Or if they realize they're in over their heads, they're afraid to ask for help.

Don't be afraid. Please. There are SO many people out there who care about you, myself included. If you're afraid to seek help, CONTACT ME and I'll help you. I'll talk to you if you feel like you can't handle it, I'll find every drug related link out there and cram it down your browser's throat until we find one you are happy with.

I'll dance naked and sing White Wedding if it will help. (Just kidding, I don't sing.)

Seriously though, I'm here for you and there are so many others that are too. Just think about it, okay?

Below are my contacts:
